Ida B. Wells

A friend of mine posted this comic on Facebook a while back and I’ve been saving it to share with you all.  Lucky you, today is that day!

She was born into slavery.

After the War of Northern Aggression (kidding) she attended Rust College, but dropped out after an ‘altercation’ with the president.

Long before Rosa Parks, she refused to leave her seat on public transportation.  In her own version of the event, she bit the conductor who tried to force her off.

Then she sued them.

When her friends were lynched, she started writing angry articles advising black people to leave Memphis, inspiring many people to do so and others to boycott white businesses.  White people were so angry with her that she was forced to move to Chicago.

After retiring, she got bored and ran for Illinois State legislature- one of the first black women to run for public office.
